A Fabulous Second Birthday Party

July 27, 2010

I’ve never sung at a second birthday party before.

In an average year I sing at quite a few birthday parties.  I’ve sung for 21st birthdays, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 70th, 80th and 90th birthdays.  I’ve even sung for a 100th birthday, but never a 2nd.  Perhaps it’s the lack of ZingZillas numbers in my repertoire.

However, all that was rectified last Wednesday when I was asked to sing at a party in Derbyshire to celebrate the second birthday of FabulousPlaces.co.uk, a website that showcases independent suppliers, shops and eateries in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The party had been organised by Deb Ellingham who runs FabulousPlaces.co.uk as a “thank you” to the suppliers on the site for their support over the last two years.  I sang four thirty-minute sets spread across three hours and was able to include some of my favourite numbers to sing including “The Nearness of You”, “On the Street Where You Live” and a beautiful piano arrangement of “Falling in Love Again”.

Lots of the suppliers were there and a marvellous time was had by all.  Sadly there was no “pass the parcel” or “musical bumps”, but there was plenty of excellent cake.

Fabulous cakes

I hear that Deb is planning to expand her Fabulous Places empire into Staffordshire next as well as publishing her own magazine.  I wish her every success.

And don’t forget that Fabulous Places are holding a Blooming Great Tea Party this Thursday July 29th from 11am til 3pm in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.  Yours truly, Simon Partridge, will be providing live entertainment throughout and you can get hold of one of the few remaining tickets here.  It promises to be a fantastic event for a great cause.  See you there!
