Swing Sunday – 1940s Fun at Lichfield Heritage Weekend

September 23, 2010

I perform all over the UK, sometimes travelling hundreds of miles to a gig, so last weekend it was a pleasant change to sing at a venue just down the road in my home city of Lichfield in Staffordshire.  I’d been asked to perform at Lichfield’s Heritage Centre as part of Lichfield Heritage Weekend, an annual celebration of the city’s history which this year had a 1940s theme.

Staff and volunteers at the centre had gone to a huge amount of trouble, serving a special 1940s-themed menu in the coffee shop and dressing up in period costumes.

I sang two thirty-minute sets of songs from the 1940s including “Chattanooga Choo Choo”, “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree” and “As Time Goes By” to an enthusiastic and appreciative crowd made up of the great and good of Lichfield.  It was a real privilege to be part of something special in the city I’m proud to call my home.

Many thanks to Di Kenney and all the staff and volunteers at Lichfield Heritage Centre for an excellent day.
