Swinfen Hall Hotel – a Staffordshire Gem

February 28, 2012

Last weekend I was fortunate enough to exhibit at the wonderful Swinfen Hall Hotel‘s wedding fayre and thought I’d share a few pictures I took of this splendid Staffordshire venue.

The manor of ‘Swynfeyn’ is listed in the Domesday book of 1086 and a manor house has stood on the site since medieval times.  The current house was completed in 1757 by architect Benjamin Wyatt.  The hall was built for Samuel Swinfen and his wife (oh, and their fifty-five staff!).  The south wing was added in in the Edwardian period by Colonel Michael Swinfen Broun and includes the wonderful oak-panelled ballroom:

The ballroom was built especially for the Colonel’s daughter’s 21st birthday celebration, but after three-years’ building she eloped two weeks before the party!  (I’m indebted to the Swinfen Hall Hotel website for these historical insights).

The hotel’s reception area is a stylish Georgian confection of pale blue and white plaster-moulding:

I had a great spot in the hotel bar:

Behind me were the most beautiful stained glass windows:

I sang songs from my repertoire throughout the day as vistors relaxed in the bar with a drink and pored over the leaflets they’d picked up from the various exhibitors at the hotel.

All in all an excellent day.  I met lots of couples looking for entertainment for their weddings (as well as one couple who’ve already booked me for their September wedding at Swinfen) and the hotel staff were simply marvelous.

Swinfen Hall Hotel really is a gem and if you’re looking for a Staffordshire venue for your wedding (or indeed any kind of party or celebration) I would heartily recommend it.
