Chic to Chic – The Vintage Chic Wedding Fair April 2012

April 24, 2012

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of singing at the 6th Vintage Chic Wedding Fair at The Centennial Centre in Birmingham.  I’ve performed at all five of the previous fairs, which are organised by sisters Cathy Lavictoire and Susie Styler, and this was the biggest yet.

At the Vintage Chic Wedding Fair, April 22nd, Birmingham

It was a great opportunity to display my wares and meet couples planning their weddings.  It was also a chance to catch up with some old friends and make a few new ones.  There were so many great exhibitors showing so much great stuff that I only had time to get round a few and I’ve to picked out one or two that really caught my eye starting with Meeni which is a showcase for Madeline Norris’ work.  At the fair she was displaying her individual wedding paintings and personalised portraits as well as wedding invitations, wedding favours, table decorations, table plans and all manner of delightful handcrafted loveliness.

Stella Liliana bridalwear (who were one of the first companies to exchange links with my site many moons ago) were exhibiting some of their beautiful vintage gowns and dresses including this beauty:

Tony and Jil from Garden Studio Crafts were showing their handmade wedding stationery:

It wouldn’t have been a wedding fayre without wonderful cakes and here are a few of my favourites:

Vintage wedding cakes from Miss Lola's Bakehouse

Vintage cupcakes from Miss Lola's Bakehouse

The above were made by Miss Lola’s Bakehouse and the two below are from Cotton and Crumbs.

Of course, once you’ve got your cake you’re going to need a cake topper and I loved this one made by Hannah from My Craftea Day:

There were some exhibitors who really went the extra mile with their stands.  The florists from In Bloom flowers had erected an entire wrought iron gazebo in their corner of the Centennial Centre!

And I’ve seen “candy carts” and pick’n’mix selections at weddings, but a whole sweetshop?

Emily's Best - travelling traditional sweetshop for weddings

Emily’s Best is the brainchild of Toby and Ruth who will bring their self-contained sweetshop to your venue and serve your guests with a quarter or two of whatever they fancy from their wonderful array of traditional sweeties.

The shop has old-fashioned brass weighing scales and all the sweets are dispensed into stripey paper bags (which can be personalised too).  The counter is decorated with authentic advertising signs.

The whole thing is utterly charming and a completely genius idea.  And no, I’m not just saying that because they gave me a bag of humbugs for the drive home.  That’s not Ruth in the photo by the way – she was sitting down out of shot, what with being eight months pregnant!

Some exhibitors had quite literally gone the extra mile by travelling from all over the country to be at the fair including Poppy Rogers of Connie and Dolly who had driven up from Surrey:

Connie and Dolly were Poppy’s elegant grandmothers whose style inspired her love of all things vintage, but particularly bridal hair adornments.

Poppy also had this rather fetching mirror on her stand:

Finally, a quick mention for Daffodil Waves Photography who were my delightful  neighbours for the day:

It was Nicola from Daffodil Waves who took the photo of me I used at the top of this post.

Many thanks to all the exhibitors and to Cathy and Susie for a splendid wedding fair.  The next fair is on October 7th in Birmingham.  I’ll be there and you can find out who else will be exhibiting by visiting the Vintage Chic Wedding fair website.
