A Wonderful West End Wedding

November 7, 2012

Presenting, live from London’s West End, Simon Partridge!

Well, kind of.  Let me explain…

Julie and James booked me (via wedding planner and vintage stylist Kate Fletcher) to sing at an afternoon tea at The Haymarket Hotel in London.

The Firmdale Haymarket Hotel, London

The hotel is in Suffolk Place, just around the corner from the world famous Theatre Royal Haymarket in the heart of London’s Theatreland.

The afternoon tea was held for all the guests who had attended Julie and James’ wedding the previous day in west Sussex (you can read all about it on the Rock My Wedding blog here).  Many of Julie’s relatives had come over to London from the continent so the tea served as a grand farewell to them in particular.

The Haymarket Hotel is one of seven London hotel’s operated by Firmdale Hotels.  Founded by Tim and Kit Kemp the Firmdale ethos is that “Hotels should be living things not stuffy institutions” .  There’s certainly nothing stuffy  about The Haymarket!  Its interiors are modern, vibrant and thoroughly individual.

The hotel was created from adjoining Georgian townhouses and boasts a façade designed by John Nash, the architect who developed large parts of Regency London, including Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and the adjoining Haymarket Theatre.

The afternoon tea was served in The Shooting Gallery, so called because the room was used in the 1800s for shooting practice by country gentlemen visiting town.  With artwork by Oliver Messel and dramatic junglescape wallpaper rendered in shades of grey and sepia the room was the perfect setting for an afternoon of elegant vintage songs from the 1920s, 30s and 40s.

I had a wonderful afternoon singing for Julie and James’ guests and it seems they enjoyed it too.

They sent me this lovely email afterwards:

“James and I cannot thank you enough for performing at our farewell brunch yesterday. We absolutely loved your music and everyone commented on how great you were. You truly helped make the final event of our weekend-long wedding and everyone was thrilled.”

Congratulations to Julie and James.  It was a real pleasure to be part of their extended wedding celebrations.
